SHORT STORY REVIEW: Eve’s Diary by Mark Twain

SUMMARY

      The first woman on Earth created by God, Eve, narrated her first day on Earth which is Saturday. Because of her misadventures, we see the naming of the Dodo, literally discovering one’s self, first sorrow, and the creation of fire. This story revolves from her creation up to her creation of fire, and she meet Adam.

      Eve ask if she is only an experiment, and she was the whole of it. She answer her own question, and she said NO, she said that the rest of it is part of it. She was the main part of it, but she thought that the rest of it has its share in the matter. When she met Adam, her life had another color, and they are getting along very well indeed. A day of Thursday and it was Eve’s first sorrow, because last day, Adam avoided her, and he want that Eve would not talk to him. She couldn’t believe on it, and she thought that there was some mistake that she had done to Adam or anything else. Eve still love Adam and she loved to hear the voice and Adam, they are only the two people living on Earth at that time, then they face a problem in that situation. Eve stay away from Adam and just sat lonely in the place where she first saw Adam.

    They only had little conversation and Eve leave him. She pick a stick and she created the fire. The fire was really useful for them and until now. They always went to the Garden of Eden, where they pick up the apple. In the biblical story, God commanded them that they can do everything in the Garden but don’t ever touch or pick an apple on the tree, but they disobey him, Eve said that God never see them. A snake appeared on that tree, and it tempted them, so that was the story. After the fall, Eve’s love for Adam developed, she really love him.

     After 40 years, Eve’s really pray that they will live together, but one of them must go first, and Eve volunteered because she was weak and Adam was strong. Although Eve was the first wife and in the last wife and she shall be repeated.

REVIEW

    First, my opinion. A very long short story but it didn’t matter. A good and nice story. Adam and Eve story, they were the people before others. Feel like they only live here in Earth, and they still had a problem, it was so worst. A very interesting and dramatic story.

    Mark Twain was like the prophet on the bible, he was interested on the biblical story. Again it was a very nice story.

REFLECTION

    Lesson of the story, whatever the problem just face it and don’t run in the face of it. Don’t even disobey your master or the elders, because they had more experience than you or the youth. Don’t be scared in sacrificing yourself just for your love one, and think before you move. It give you knowledge about fire, it was really interesting and nice.
